Silly Open Source, TrixBox is Fonality!

Fellow VoIP Blogger Tom Keating, broke the news about Fonality’s acquisition of TrixBox (the largest Asterisk based community) a Asterisk based super-pbx, yesterday. Check-out his interview with Fonality CEO and Janitor Chris Lyman here. Today, Fonality and TrixBox made the news public, issuing a press release stating Fonality will commit engineering resources and broad financial support to continue fostering innovation in the TrixBox open source community. Although the offical release did not go into much detail about what changes would come about as a result of the acquistion, but the TrixBox and open source communities have had mixed reactions to the Fonality purchase.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but from my point of view, Fonality has bought exactly what Digium created with Asterisk. A community of developers, who will work for free, to make your product better so that they can turn a bigger profit for their “commercial” offering.
