iPhone Fate Still in Holding Pattern

Apple Inc. and Cisco Systems, Inc. have another week to try and work out their differences on the iPhone trademark infringement lawsuit. Apple now has until Wednesday to respond to the lawsuit Cisco filed last month in San Francisco. They both have indicated that they want extra time in an effort to try and reach a settlement.
Cisco, who started shipping a line of iPhones last Spring, has noted that they will allow Apple to continue to use the trademarked name but they want both companies’ phones to be able to communicate with each other. Apple’s take on the whole thing? They referred to the lawsuit as “silly” and said that they should be able to continue to use the iPhone name because the phones operate on different network. I call that “silly.”
Cisco has owned the iPhone trademark since 2000.
