Rich Tehrani is first up today with news on a new collaboration between Avaya and Nokia. They’re teaming up on new dual-model devices. “Avaya and Nokia are collaborating on dual-mode devices for the enterprise. If you are the lucky user of a Nokia E60, E61 or E70 you are able to now download the Avaya one-X Mobile software for Symbian Dual Mode application and you are all set.”
Andy Abramson from the VoIP Watch has an update on the Wi-Fi connection on the Heathrow Express. “The Heathrow Express that makes the journey into Central London from the main airport serving the UK takes all of 15 minutes. The folks at T-Mobile rigged up Hotspot access on the train and literally as we roll into town, I’m staying connected. What does this mean? Well for me it means not quite yet having to switch on my unlocked HSDPA broadband card. It also means that everything I need to have is here. Solid connectivity. Access to the web and a quick sync of Entourage. It means when I get to London I’m free to enjoy the city, not have to worry about what’s piling up at the virtual office. As a roamer there’s a small upcharge, but staying connected on the go is where’s it at for those of us who believe in Working Anywhere.”
This week, the folks at VoIP-News are chatting about what Skype and eBay have been up to lately. “This week’s news about eBay and Skype seemed pretty bad at first. Ebay is taking a $1.4 billion charge against its Q3 earnings to pay off Skype’s shareholders early as part of its original deal to buy the VoIP upstart. Meanwhile, the remaining founder of Skype is stepping down as CEO. Most press coverage summed the news up as a sign that eBay paid far too much for Skype in the first place and is only now accepting that reality. Very little thought or attention was paid to the underlying questions of what eBay is going to do with Skype.”
