Raketu makes a Spalsh with SMS based VoIP Call Setup

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

A competitor for ground breaking VoIP Service provider, Jajah that I have written here on iPhone and there in Japan. But from the outlook of it, this seems a fine way for mobile VoIP with an attractive cost per minute.
For an Example: a mobile phone user in the UK wants to call a friend in New York also on a mobile phone. The user in the UK sends a text message from their mobile phone to Raketu’s UK local number with the appropriate calling information in the message and Raketu connects the two phones. The Raketu rate for the call will be the regular RakWeb calling rate, or $.115 per minute. This is a savings of greater than 35% over competitor Jajah’s rate for a similar call, and Jajah calls MUST be initiated from a computer connected to the Internet.

The News release;

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Raketu Communications Inc., the global Internet communications, information and entertainment company, today introduced its SMS-Text Driven VoIP Service, which enables mobile device users to make phone-to-phone voice over IP (VoIP) Internet calls with no computer or Internet connection required. Now anyone with a mobile device capable of sending SMS-Text messages can make free or extremely low cost national and international calls from their mobile phone without an Internet connection. This new service is in addition to Raketu’s already available computer-to-phone, and web-based phone-to-phone calling.

“Our new SMS-Text Driven Service represents a paradigm shift in the ability for users with just about any mobile phone to initiate free or low-cost calls right from their handsets,” said Greg Parker, President of Raketu. “Now if you can send a text message from your mobile phone, through Raketu you can call over forty countries absolutely free and the rest of the world at extremely low cost VoIP rates.”

Details Of Raketu’s SMS-Text Driven VoIP Service

For mobile device users interested in using Raketu’s new SMS-Text Driven VoIP Service, the user simply needs a mobile phone capable of sending SMS-Text messages and a Raketu account. No computer, software, or Internet connection is required. The user sends a text message to one of the local SMS-Text numbers available and embeds the call instructions into the message. Raketu calls the originating number first and connects it directly with the destination number.

Example: a mobile phone user in the UK wants to call a friend in New York also on a mobile phone.

Raketu’s low RakWeb VoIP calling rates apply for all Raketu SMS-Text Driven VoIP calls. Raketu users who make a payment of $9.95, $24.95 or $49.95 towards Raketu’s ultra-low calling rates globally are eligible for 1200 free calling minutes per month towards SMS-Text or web initiated phone-to-phone calls. See www.Raketu.com for details.
