NHS Trusts which is based in London would be offered free VoIP calls courtesy BT and this service available to all the members of the Trust who would like to try out this channel of communication.
The free VoIP service involves a free connection to the 3N Local Gateway Service and it is a pilot project of BT which after the trial would be extended to other groups that might want to indulge in the benefits of such service. The only charges that NHS Trusts have to pay are the cost of a signaling interface card to connect to the N3 gateway, software configuration charges and a monthly management fee.
The fact that the N3 Local Gateway Service acts as an interface between a local telephone switch and the N3 Voice Core Services Central platform could only mean one thing to this health community and this is the fact that it allows free VoIP calls to be made over the N3 network and provides access to the central mobile gateway, enabling reduced rate calls to mobile phones. The network has been configured in such a way that it connects surgeries, hospitals, community pharmacies and other NHS sites that share resources with these units.
It is expected that the service would reduce Trust’s phone bills by at least twenty percent and already about twenty-one London NHS Trusts have been participating in this pilot scheme since the last sixty days with another twenty-six to soon join the list.
