The X6v, a DSL gateway with a four-point switch, VoIP telephone adapter, and 802.11g/b wireless router with firewall security, is now shipping from Zoom Technologies. With user-friendly Quality of Service menus and the ability to easily dedicate the bandwidth to 4 Ethernet LAN ports and the wireless LAN channel, the product is intended to provide service providers with an efficient voice, data and video delivery system.
According to MSNBC:
The X6v has both an FXS (phone instrument) port and an FXO (phone network) port, and enables bi-directional bridging of calls between the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Voice over IP. Connecting the FXO port to the phone network also provides the phones connected to the X6v with reliable emergency dialing, and backup phone service in the event of a power failure. Zoom’s distinctive Teleport(TM) feature is supported to provide inexpensive compliance with the emergency dialing (E911) regulations required by the Federal Communications Commission.
The router in the X6v incorporates Zoom’s distinctive “FastLane” feature, allowing users to easily establish Quality of Service for improved on-line gaming, video conferencing, and other applications. FastLane allows applications that require immediate transmission of data to work reliably even when they are competing with bandwidth-hungry applications, including popular peer-to-peer multimedia sharing applications. VoIP traffic to and from the integrated VoIP adapter is always prioritized to ensure high-quality voice communications.
